More and more, the number of patients with chronical pain is increasing, people with cancer that suffers sickness due to chemotherapy and people with autoimmune illness, as fibromyalgia or glaucoma
Nevertheless, there is a need of impartial studies around the physiological and psychological effects, and its therapeutical potential.
The phenomenon of Cannabis Associations offers a big opportunity to issue this kind of investigations.
Purpose of the Study
1.- Trace the quality of life of users, and the effects of cannabis perceived on their symptomatology.
2.- Track biomarkers response in immune system functionality, endocrinal and endocannabics.
3.- Assess the impact of composition of cannabics ingredients consumed on mental health and cognitive function system of the consumers.
4.- Study of interactions between mental health and user’s genetic polymorphism.
1.- Advance in scientific knowledge on the effect of cannabis in certain diseases and its potential therapeutical applications.
2.- The study will make public the social function of the Cannabis Associations activities.
3.- The participants in the study would enhance their knowledge on the influence of cannabis in the process of their disease.
4.- Cannabis Associations would offer a better service to their therapeutical partners.
5.- Due to the collaboration with scientific institutions, Cannabis Associations may show up their commitment with the social collective responsibility.
Words of beneficiaries
The Science and Investigation world has been specially affected by the economic crisis that is hitting our country. After a cut of 25 % in 2012, the State Official Budget for investigation for 2014 will increase just a 1,3% over 2013 Budget, however, for military investigation has increased a 39,5%
There are fields of investigation briefly financed by public agencies. This is the case with the investigation of medical cannabis.
Cannabis is a plant with medical uses recognised since thousands years. Its therapeutical properties are widely accepted by the medical community for the treatment of the symptoms of different pathologies. Ironically, public agencies are leaving on the pharmacy industry hands, the development of drugs based on cannabis, which are more expensive and lees acceptable than the cannabis unprocessed.
Renouncing at the investigation of the plant in its wild form, supposes to abandon a field that could be very positive in terms of healthy and economy. Economically, because the plant in its natural state is cheaper than the pharmacy transformation process. In terms of healthy, as it’s said, because patients accepts its effects in a better way.
More and more, tests confirms that the medical cannabis allows chronical patients to reduce or even remove pharmacological treatments. All this would suppose an improvement of medical cares and a reduction of sanitary expenses.
ICEERS have launched a research consisting in tracking patients with diseases treated with marijuana. Seldom if ever, these patients have a medical control and it’s unknown which is the effect of marijuana on the illness process.
After a beginning phase of financial research, we met Fundació Alchimia Solidaria, nowadays or main contributor. Because of Alchimia contribution, this research is warranted for a year, at least the more affordable part of it, that’s tracking the symptoms through forms filled by our patients.
We’d like to thank Fundació Alchimia Solidaria, and we’re sure it’ll be a pleasure to carry on this scientific challenge together.
